Rep. Hinson says tariffs are part of Trump’s “long game” approach

A U.S. Representative from Iowa says President Trump has been strategic in his recent tariff actions.

“He’s playing chess, not checkers,” Republican Ashley Hinson said Friday.

Hinson tells Brownfield there could be some short-term uncertainty, but, “President Trump’s overall goal is to protect American workers and American trade to bring back more opportunity, better bridges, and better jobs for American workers. I think he’s playing the long game here.”

She says the end result should bring farmers expanded market access. “Ensuring our producers have more market access continues to be a top priority for the administration and for us. I want to see us expanding our trade relationships with like-minded nations as we work to decrease our reliance on places like China.”

Hinson says some of the tariffs have already been paused due to trading partners coming to the table.
