Rep. Hinson says USMCA renewal key as review approaches

U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says renewing USMCA is critical to ensuring fair trade for farmers.
“I’ve talked with a lot of these farmers myself and what they continue to tell me is that they need free and fair market access,” she said. “I know Canada and Mexico are two of our largest trading partners. I support renewal of USMCA.”
The Iowa Republican tells Brownfield negotiations could help work out needed changes.
“Some of the areas I know we need some work and updates are potentially around dairy, poultry-with what we’ve seen with avian influenza obviously and maybe some policy changes there-and then we saw that controversy over GM corn with Mexico. So, I just want to make sure all of that is buttoned up.”
President Trump recently said he’s not looking to renew the USMCA deal, which sparked some concerns among several agricultural groups.
The USMCA is scheduled to undergo its first formal six-year joint review in July.
