Rep. Mann says momentum building for 45Z legislation
A Kansas Congressman says momentum is building behind legislation to extend the 45Z tax credit for low-carbon biofuels.
Republican Tracey Mann tells Brownfield…
“This is a big issue. Let’s make sure that our American tax credits are used to benefit American producers. It’s not rocket science, but I’m pleased to lead the charge on this legislation,” he says.
Mann is co-sponsor of a House bill that would extend the credit for 10 years but restrict the incentive to products derived from domestic feedstocks.
He says the U.S. has imported 10 billion pounds of used cooking oil and tallow, mostly from China since 2022.
“That is the equivalent to displacing 880 million bushels of soybeans, which is about five times the annual Kansas crop. We’re saying this makes no sense at all,” he says.
The Senate introduced a bipartisan companion bill last week, co-sponsored by Republican Roger Marshall, of Kansas and Democrat Sherrod Brown, of Ohio.
