Rep. Smith says extending biodiesel blenders’ credit would create more clarity for producers

A U.S. Congressman says a lack of certainty from the U.S. Treasury led him to cosponsor a House Resolution to extend the biodiesel blenders’ tax credit through 2025.

“We’re needing more time basically so that producers can have a little bit of certainty that we might be able to offer them, but the administration dragging their feet on this is especially problematic.”

Smith says he recognizes biodiesel production has slowed across the region as many producers await guidance on the Clean Fuel Production Tax Credit.

“I would encourage producers to hang in there because I think producers themselves offer a great solution to the energy challenges we face,” he says.

The U.S. Treasury has until Jan. 1 to release its guidance.
