Research shows where not to spend on soybeans

A North Carolina State University Extension soybean specialist says research is showing what not to spend money on when seeking higher soybean yields.

Rachel Vann tells Brownfield…

“We looked at variety of foliar fertilizer products applied at R3, or beginning pod, in many states across the US over multiple years and saw no return on investment from using those products,” she says.

She says biological seed treatment results have also been surprising.

“We’ve done that research now in 100 sites across the US over the past couple of years and in our research, both nationally, but when we look more regionally within that data set, we’re seeing a pretty limited influence of those products on soybean yield,” she says.

Vann says the research is part of the checkoff funded Science For Success efforts to further soybean studies at numerous land grant institutions across the country.
