RFA lauds USTR nominee’s comments on biofuels
President Trump’s pick for U.S. Trade Representative says support for biofuel producers would be a priority if he’s confirmed.
During a hearing before the Senate Finance Committee, Jamieson Greer said he wants to target new markets for U.S. biofuels.
Ed Hubbard, the Renewable Fuels Association, says Greer’s comments were favorable for the industry. “There’s been some concern in the industry that we wouldn’t be focusing on expanding markets,” Hubbard said. “That’s really been what our industry’s main focus has been with respect to our trade promotion efforts has really been to open new markets.”
Greer also told the committee he would work with Brazil to help reduce their 18% tariff on U.S. ethanol. Hubbard tells Brownfield this has been long overdue. “We’ve always for a long while have been pushing back on this import tariff that was imposed right at the end of the last Obama administration.”
The Senate Finance Committee is scheduled to consider Greer’s USTR nomination on Tuesday.
