RFA says Farm to Fly Act is a win for farmers
The director of government affairs for the Renewable Fuels Association says the re-introduction of the bipartisan Farm to Fly Act is a win for farmers.
Jared Mullendore says expanding the use of ethanol in sustainable aviation fuel could create new demand for U.S. corn.
“It’s just a matter of streamlining these programs,” he says. “The Farm to Fly Act is looking at what’s going on within USDA and trying to figure out how can we utilize existing programs to get SAF production scaled quicker.”
He tells Brownfield this could open the door for feedstocks to have a larger role in energy production.
“35 billion to 36 billion gallons per year just in domestic demand,” he says. “Many would like to replace that fossil jet fuel with sustainable aviation fuel. Now, that’s obviously going to take some time. There is still a lot of room for feedstocks to play in the SAF space.”
Mullendore says RFA is urging the Senate to act on the legislation, emphasizing its importance to sustainable aviation fuel production.
