RFA sees significant growth in E85 availability

The senior vice president of industry relations for the Renewable Fuels Association says the availability of E85 has been increasing across the country.

Robert White tells Brownfield E85 is significantly cheaper than E10 gasoline. “We have just shy of 6,000 E85 stations spread across the country, but we are adding somewhere between one and two every day.”

He says motorists need to have a flex fuel vehicle to use the fuel blend. “For a lot of the communities that are getting them now, it’s not a 25-to-30-year fuel. It’s a brand-new fuel, so they’re seeing it for the first time. Maybe you have been driving a flex fuel vehicle for a long time and never had the opportunity to fuel.”

In March, RFA reported that record use of E85 in California saved the state’s drivers $99 million in 2023, while cutting greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 370,000 metric tons.
