RFS fuels opportunity for soybean farmers
The CEO of Clean Fuels Alliance America says the Renewable Fuel Standard’s latest targets are benefiting American soybean farmers.
Donnell Rehagen tells Brownfield biomass-based diesel production from soybean oil is projected to nearly double from 1.3 billion gallons in 2025 to more than 2.6 billion in 2027 under the RFS.
“Positive outcomes (from higher blending volumes) like increased value for soybeans, increased value for soybean oil and soybean processors. But also it significantly increased fuel production in the biodiesel and renewable diesel space.”
He says domestic soybean crush capacity has grown about 25 percent the past five years.
“Providing a value directly to the farmer, but that would not have happened if it were not for the expected growth of our industry.”
The Clean Fuels Alliance is a U.S. trade association representing the biodiesel and renewable diesel industries.
