Ripp concerned Wisconsin CAFO changes won’t finish this legislative session

Wisconsin’s Assistant Deputy Ag Secretary says he’s not confident the proposed change to move the regulation of CAFO’s from the Department of Natural Resources to the Ag Department can happen before the legislative session ends.  “We’re basically waiting.  Legislation needs to happen, and whether that happens or not this session, I mean, what does that look like if it happens and certainly we need to have approval from EPA.”

Keith Ripp says he supports moving oversight of CAFO’s to his department.  “You know, that’s going to be quite a lift, but hopefully it does happen.  I think it does make sense to have that underneath our roof.”

Ripp is concerned about having producers potentially go to two state agencies for approvals but says they will figure that out when legislation moves forward.

The Assembly has already adjourned for the session and wouldn’t be back without a special session.  The Senate is still in session.
