Rise continues for broiler sets, placements

Broiler sets and placements continue to climb above year ago levels, implying higher meat production.

The USDA says 245.39 million broiler-type eggs were in incubation at the end of last week, slightly lower than the week before, but up 2% from this time last year.

190.076 million broiler-type chicks were placed into meat production, also modestly below the previous week, but a little bit above the year before, with those birds heading to market in August.

The USDA’s next round of annual broiler production projections is out July 12th.
