Rise in high-blend biofuel use in modern equipment
The director of market development with Missouri Soybeans says more companies are using higher blend renewable fuels in equipment.
Matt Amick tells Brownfield several engine manufacturers are using up to B100.
“There’s equipment called Optimus, it’s retrofit technology that can allow on-road or off-road diesel fleets to use B100, even in the coldest temps. We also attended a session where John Deere talked about approving some engines up to B30 and older engines up to B100.”
Josh Garetson with John Deere says offering higher blends of biodiesel and renewable diesel for Tier 4 engines makes the statement engines are capable of handling higher blend levels and there’s been a good response.
“We don’t have to just have others use it, we can use it ourselves. We can increase the amount of the oilseeds that get turned into biodiesel on our own operation and in that way, encourage others: hey, if we can do it, you can, too.”
Brownfield interviewed Amick and Garetson at the Clean Fuels Conference.
