Rollins: long-term market development key to reducing farm bailouts

Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins says market development is key to reducing the amount of ad-hoc assistance going to farmers.
Rollins told reporters a long-term plan is needed to make that happen.
“As all these new trade deals go into effect in the next six to eight to 12 months, you will see, hopefully, a movement away from what’s been almost 100 years of this idea of these massive bailouts for these farmers. They don’t want them. They’re not good for the market or economy.”
Rollins says the United States is in discussions with some countries in South America to crush soybeans and on Thursday, she talked with two countries interested in purchasing ag products.
