Rural tv viewers may be without Friday
Millions of rural households on Friday are predicted to be without a way to view television when the switch is made to digital television nationwide. Mike Didow with DTV Across America, “We predict that for many households this will be six months to a year before this gets sorted out.” Didow says his group met with the FCC in March and they acknowledged that many viewers would be left in the dark when the switch occurs June 12th. Didow says the FCC has “under-appreciated” the antenna issue. And, he says they incorrectly made assumptions that the DTV converter box and coupon program would be the biggest need, “Particularly the assumption that every household would have an outdoor antenna mounted 30 feet off the ground.” And those antennas must be unobstructed by trees or foliage.
