No rush to harvest in Wisconsin

Ag Today copy

Despite the fairly nice weather, wet field conditions and high moisture levels delayed the harvest a little more in Wisconsin.  Topsoil moisture is listed as 82 percent adequate and 14 percent surplus.  A week ago it was 78 percent adequate and 18 percent surplus.

The weekly Crop Progress Report from the National Ag Statistics Service-Wisconsin Field Office says as of Sunday: 20 percent of the corn-for-grain is harvested, up 9 points from the previous week but 27 points behind the five year average.  Given what corn prices are, farmers are more inclined to let it dry in the fields than to have to pay to dry it.  Corn silage chopping is 86 percent complete, 10 points behind the five-year average.

59 percent of the Wisconsin soybeans are harvested, up 17 percent from a week ago but 16 points behind the five-year average for this date.  Good yields being reported: 35 bushels in Burnett County, 50 bushels in Kenosha County and 65 per acre in Eau Claire County.

80 percent of the winter wheat is planted with 57 percent emerged and fall tillage is 32 percent complete.
