Schlies named Wisconsin’s Fairest of the Fair

2015 Fairest Deanna Schlies

An 8th-grade science teacher from Denmark, Wisconsin is the 2015 Wisconsin Fairest of the Fair.  Deanna Schlies representing the Brown County Fair was selected from 40 candidates at the Wisconsin Association of Fairs annual convention this week.

Schlies graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a minor in Biology. She currently teaches in Two Rivers.

She got involved in the fair through the FFA and was a member of the state and national FFA choirs. She is now the assistant director for the Wisconsin State FFA Choir.

One of her goals as Wisconsin’s Fairest of the Fair is to attract more urban interest in the fair. She did not grow up on a farm, “I didn’t start in the barns, that is something I fell in love with after I started attending the fair.”  She says there are many kids out there who think they can’t participate in the fair because they aren’t on a farm and she hopes to change that misconception for as many as possible.  We talked to Deanna shortly after being named:

Robyn Wittkopf of Waukesha County was named first runner-up and also Miss Congeniality. Emily Schaal of Racine County was second runner-up; Ashley Bergsbaken of Shawano County was third runner-up and Alexis Dunnam of Vernon County was fourth runner-up.

Retiring Fairest Kaitlyn Riley from Crawford County presented her “Friend of the Fairest” award to Governor Scott Walker.
