Scout early and often for weeds
An Enlist field specialist with Corteva Agriscience considers scouting a key part of getting the growing season off to a good start.
Josh Wilson says farmers should go into each year with a comprehensive weed management plan.
“I think scouting is a big piece of that and comes into play whether it’s a grower who has a lot of history with the field that he’s farming, where you can go back to old scout records and kind of see what you’ve got in those fields. And kind of make your plan accordingly to that.”
He tells Brownfield scouting is also important when bringing on new farms.
“You’ve got to have boots on the ground, you’ve got to know what you’ve got in place to definitely identify those particular weed problems you may have. And forge a set plan moving forward to give yourself a head start.”
Wilson reminds growers scouting needs to be done both before a field is sprayed, and as a follow up to look for weed escapes.
