Sec. Rollins: Active NWS cases continue to decline
Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins says the US has made significant progress in the fight against New World Screwworm.
“We’re now lifting quarantines.”
Secretary Rollins says the number of active cases is dwindling.
“As of today, 90 days in, there are only two active cases in Texas,” she said. “Only 47 total.”
She says USDA still has work to do on the issue.
“We have been dropping in almost a billion sterile flies as we’re building the new facilities in America to make sure that this never happens again.”
The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced Monday it has approved the release of two NWS infested zones in Texas, which included portions of La Salle, Webb, Gillespie, Kerr and Kimble counties. It marked the first NWS infested zones to be released in Texas since the first case was detected in Texas on June 3rd.
Rollins made her comments Tuesday at the Farm Progress Show.
