Selecting right seed goes beyond genetics
A seed manager for WinField United says selecting the right seed goes well beyond genetics.
Corey Evans tells Brownfield management and placement are also key.
“So the seed is purchased, but if we think about what yield truly is, genetics, environment, and management all add up to contribute to yield.”
He says managing BY genetics can minimize the risks of unique environmental situations.
“For instance, understanding a corn hybrid’s response to nitrogen or response to population or fungicide, starts to fine-tune that genetic selection.”
Evans says while most farmers have already chosen their genetics for 2020, now is a good time to dig deeper into management strategies specific to those corn hybrids and soybean varieties.
