Sen. Fischer concerned with downturn in ag economy

A U.S. Senator says she’s concerned about the downturn in the ag economy.

Nebraska Republican Deb Fischer tells Brownfield…

“People know that we have to weather these cycles, but they also know that we have to receive fair compensation, fair revenue for the products we produce,” she says.

Fischer says growing demand for US agricultural goods is critical to improving the farm economy.

“We have to figure out a way that we can have trade programs that work, but also make sure we have trade,” she says.

She says many farmers have shared similar concerns.

“Even though we understand things cycle, we need to see some movement,” she says.

Fischer, who serves on the Senate Agriculture Committee, says a farm bill isn’t likely to be finalized until 2025. She hosted a roundtable discussion on ag-related issues Friday at the Nebraska State Fair.
