Sen. Grassley reflects on favorite state fair activities, hasn’t missed a fair since 1974

A U.S. Senator from Iowa says he hasn’t missed an Iowa State Fair in more than 50 years.

Republican Chuck Grassley tells Brownfield he’s been a consistent fairgoer since 1974. “I went to a few fairs before then, but not on a regular basis,” he said. “Now the fair is regularly on my schedule.”

He says some of his favorite fair activities include, “Handing out hard boiled eggs for the egg council. Then I go see the biggest bull, the biggest boar, and the biggest ram. I usually walk through a couple of the (livestock) barns just to get a view of things.”

Grassley says his go-to fair food is the pork chop on a stick at the Iowa Pork Tent.
