Sen. Moran says he expects farm bill compromise to be prioritized in lame duck session

A U.S. Senator from Kansas says he expects the farm bill to be prioritized in the lame duck session of Congress.

Republican Jerry Moran tells Brownfield…

“There’s a recognition there needs to be assistance to farmers like now that soon, because the conditions are so bad,” he says.

He says Congress has some potential options.

“There is some talk about an extension plus, in other words, extending some of the programs, but modifying and changing others. That might be a middle ground,” he says.

Moran says this would streamline relief to farmers who qualify.

“Much of this work, or some of this work, may be done in the appropriations process, as we work at trying to complete the appropriation bills that are now due to be done on December 20,” he says.

The current farm bill extension expires Monday.
