Senator discusses efforts to increase domestic fertilizer production

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown says he’s pleased with the administration’s plans to support and expand American fertilizer production.

“We’ve got to begin to resource and get more of these jobs in Ohio and America and get more production in the United States,” he says. “If we don’t, every time there’s a pandemic or a terrible climate event, it will continue to cause inflation and cost us jobs in our country.”

The Ohio Democrat says too many jobs have been outsourced, including production of fertilizers.

“NPK is the ingredient and we know we import far too much of it,” he says. “Our country has allowed in the last thirty years and frankly presidents of both parties have played a role in outsourcing far too many jobs.”

The USDA has said the recent $250 million investment will help address rising costs, including the impact of Russia’s price hike on farmers, and spur competition.
