Senator says UK, China agreements could lay groundwork for more market access
A US Senator from Kansas says he’s cautiously optimistic that recent trade agreements in principle could expand market access for ag producers.
Roger Marshall tells Brownfield the deal with the UK could help lay the groundwork for additional agreements with other countries. “We would like to be able to sell beef in Europe and of course ethanol is a great opportunity for the corn growers, the sorghum growers and the soybean growers as well in the biodiesel (industry).”
He says he’s encouraged that China has been willing to negotiate, but they haven’t been a reliable customer in the past. “Which is why I’m asking this administration to give us year-round E15 give us this 45Z tax credit and that’ll be a good places for that excess soybean, sorghum and corn to go.”
Marshall says increasing domestic demand would help bring additional market certainty for producers.
