Short-term weather outlook for WCB, ECB

An ag meteorologist says short-term outlooks show elevated chances of precipitation for parts of the Midwest.

Eric Hunt with Nebraska Extension says some lower pressure systems could develop over the next 10 days. “We could have several inches of rain across a lot of Nebraska, western Iowa, and up into Minnesota and Wisconsin.”

Speaking during a UNL webinar Tuesday, he said some tropical activity in the Gulf of Mexico could also bring some added moisture. “This could go straight north into Nebraska, but probably more likely it gets further east into Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.”

Hunt says June rains would be timely for farmers and ranchers. “A lot of that heavy precipitation that fell in late May, a lot of that may have ran off and we maybe didn’t capture as much into the soil as we initially anticipated.”

He says the Upper Midwest remains very wet.
