Silage, sugarbeet harvest in southwest Minnesota
A farmer and crop adjuster in southwest Minnesota says harvest activity is in full swing.
Joe Serbus farms in Renville County and tells Brownfield silage chopping and edible bean harvest is underway.
“They’re really attacking those beans right now. The early sugarbeet lift has started, so they’ve taken off headlands (and) opened up fields. Sweetcorn harvest is still going on, and those fields are very uneven.”
He says that’s causing problems for farmers and processors.
“They want the consistency of that sweetcorn ear coming into the plant so they can set the cutters for a certain size, while these fields are up and down. It’s got to be a challenge for them to get a quality product processed this year.”
Serbus says he should begin soybean harvest in about three weeks.
