Small grain harvest wrapping up in Minnesota

Warm, sunny weather allowed Minnesota farmers to finish small grain harvest and begin harvesting row crops.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says other fieldwork included chopping corn for silage and harvest of dry beans, potatoes, and sugarbeets.

Corn in or past the dent stage, at 69 percent, is 12 percent behind a year ago and a week behind the five-year average.

Soybeans coloring or beyond reached 61 percent, which is a week slower than a year ago and four days off the usual pace.

The dry edible bean harvest is 17 percent complete, potatoes are 33 percent harvested, and the sugarbeet harvest is seven percent done.
