Soggy early season brings crop claim reminders

The crop claims manager with Country Financial says torrential rains and severe storms have some farmers concerned about replanting.

Jessica Carter says crops planted after initial federal insurance plant dates, or covered by private replant coverage, could be eligible.

“You must submit a notice of loss, and your crop adjuster has to give you approval before you can get out there and replant.”  She says, “Reach out to your crop agent as soon as possible so you can replant when you have that window to do so.”

Although it’s still early in the season, Carter tells Brownfield it’s also a good time for farmers to re-familiarize themselves with prevent plant policies.

“Prevent planting is when we are unable to get the crops in the ground, it has to be a weather driven cause of loss that keeps you out of the field.”  She says, “We still have plenty of time to try and get some planters out there.”

Carter says farmers should work closely with their crop insurance agents throughout the planting season.
