Some corn hybrids saw renewed corn leaf aphid pressure in 2025

A field crop entomologist with the University of Illinois says some farmers were once again plagued by corn leaf aphids in 2025.
Nick Seiter tells Brownfield, “Not nearly to the extent as in 2024.” He says, “Really it was seemingly kind of limited to some sensitive hybrids out there. They got dinged a little bit again.”
Seiter says farmers growing susceptible hybrids should be aware of the threat.
“There were several of them out there across several different manufacturers.” He says, “If you’re going to continue growing that hybrid, which you probably are, many of them are pretty high performing hybrids otherwise, you’ll want to keep an eye out for them.”
Seiter says scouting susceptible hybrids right before and at tasseling is key to preventing yield loss to corn leaf aphids.
Brownfield spoke with Seiter at the Illinois Soybean Association’s 2026 Field Advisor Forum in Urbana.
