Some drought stress in Kentucky

Some of Kentucky’s corn and soybean crops are showing drought stress as precipitation continues to miss parts of the state.

Corn is rated 53% good to excellent with 38% silking, 12% milked, and 2% in the dough stage.  Soybeans are rated 55% good to excellent with 95% emerged, 33% blooming, and 6% setting pods. 

Winter wheat harvest is 89% complete. 

The tobacco set is rated 62% good to excellent with 10% blooming.  Pasture conditions have improved slightly to 61% good to excellent with recent rains improving some areas.  Hay yields continue to vary widely as cutting continues.  Grazing grounds are thin.

Topsoil is 76% adequate to surplus and subsoil is 72% adequate to surplus.
