Some farmers say 2025 has been one of the toughest years of their career

Some farmers say 2025 has been one of the toughest years of their careers.

West central Indiana farmer Kevin Cox says consistent rainfall and a late start to planting has impacted his crops.

“Do you go in and try to get a perfect stand now the last couple of days of June or the first few days of July,” he says. “Or do you just take a shot and hope that the half stand planted May 18th, or 19th will be sufficient enough? There’s just a lot of challenges still with this.”

Northwest Ohio farmer Greg Corcoran says he wasn’t able to finish planting this year and having the right risk management tool is essential.

“It’s times like these and you’re struggling, you’re looking at insurance, prevent plant, we really rely heavily on that new Farm Bill,” he says. “You’re relying so heavily on Mother Nature, and you don’t know what she’s going to throw at you year to year and you throw two years of not good in the mix, you need some help.”

Both farmers say if wet weather conditions continue, it could have a lasting impact on this year’s crop.
