Some Iowa farmers increasing their corn acres

An extension agronomist with Iowa State University says some farmers in the state are shifting to more corn acres this year.

Meaghan Anderson tells Brownfield prices are favoring corn over soybeans.

“It just kind of depends on who you talk to. Some people are unexpectedly planning to go to more corn. There’s quite a few people that are sticking with their rotation they were planning.”

She says some producers are making changes as the planting season progresses.

“There’s some flexibility, especially with the ability to get nitrogen on the way we do. That’s one of the biggest differences between the two crops is making sure you’ve got the nitrogen out there. There’s been some movement here even yet this spring on changing from one crop to another.”

Anderson says some weekend rains slowed some planting work to start the week.
