Some long-term optimism for the corn market

The co-founder of AgMarket.net says there could be long-term opportunities brewing in the corn market.

Matt Bennett says several factors make him optimistic for 2026.

“We’ve drawn down world stocks on corn about 10 years straight.”  He says, “At some point, just in time delivery works for everyone, but whenever it doesn’t, you know, it could get pretty dynamic.”

He tells Brownfield, “Fertilizer prices are sky high, especially versus the price of corn.”  He says, “And so I just don’t know that you’re gonna come up with the corn acres in ‘26, nothing close to what we saw this year.”

Bennett says both could bode well for corn prices, but farmers will need to plan accordingly.

“If they’re thinking they’ve got well above APH-type yields, and they just simply hedge the July out there at $4.50 or $4.60, you know if they get an option price basis or better, they can certainly live with prices like that,” he says.

Bennett says farmers with on-farm storage capabilities and forward-thinking marketing plans are best prepared to avoid selling during harvest lows.
