Some planting progress in western Illinois
A western Illinois farmer says there’s been some planting progress in western Illinois.
Rick Edwards, who farms in Adams County, tells Brownfield, “There were a few acres of beans were planted the very first part of March, when we had a little bit of a warm spell, and the soil conditions were good.” He says, “There’s been a little bit planted here lately, a little corn and a little beans, but not very many acres. A lot of anhydrous still being putting on and fertilizer.”
He says he’s holding off for warmer soil conditions.
“But the soil temperatures are pretty cool.” He says, “It’s just a little concerning. I think when the soil warms up farmers got the capacity now that the acres go in fast.”
The USDA says 1% of corn and 2% of Illinois soybeans were planted as of April 13th.
