Sorghum acres fall below year ago levels
Sorghum planted area declined from year-to-year.
The USDA says 6.28 million acres were planted to sorghum this year, up from the March Prospective Plantings report, but 5% below last year.
That dip is at least partially due to ongoing drought in some key growing areas.
Sorghum stocks as of June 1st were 66.7 million bushels, a drop of 33% on the year, with the USDA reporting strong quarterly usage.
The USDA’s updated supply, demand, and production numbers are out July 10th.
Kansas: Sorghum: 2.7 million acres, compared to 3 million in 2025
Nebraska: Sorghum: 230,000 acres, compared to 250,000 in 2025
South Dakota: Sorghum: 300,000 acres, compared to 255,000 in 2025
