South Dakota crops lag behind usual pace

South Dakota’s crops remain behind average with the corn crop maturing and soybeans dropping their leaves.

USDA says 10% of South Dakota’s corn is mature. At this time last year, corn harvest was just getting started. And 16% of soybeans are dropping leaves. South Dakota’s sorghum is 5% mature, also behind last year.

Spring wheat harvest is nearing completion with winter wheat planting 12% complete. Sunflower bracts turning yellow is 13% complete and 1% of the sunflower bracts are turning brown.
