Southeast Iowa farmer reports mixed harvest results amid USDA data gap

A farmer in southeast Iowa reports mixed reviews as harvest winds down.

Tom Adam of Keota says yields in his area are above average.

“Maybe above trendline. But there’s other places where I’ve heard they didn’t do so well.”

He tells Brownfield the government shutdown makes it more difficult to get a good handle on the U.S. corn and soybean crops.

“It would be nice to have some USDA reporting right now to know where we’re at on this. Without that, we’re kind of just guessing.”

Adam, who serves as president of the Iowa Soybean Association, says soybean harvest is essentially complete around him and corn is 80 to 90 percent harvested.
