Southeast Minnesota farmer expands grain storage to improve marketing flexibility

A farmer in southeastern Minnesota is planning additional grain storage.

“We’re kind of staying the course in most aspects of the farming operation, we do plan to build more grain storage in the next year. Just giving us more flexibility in terms of marketing.”

He tells Brownfield being near the Mississippi River is a factor.

“We’re in kind of a river market and being able to store those beans until the following summer when the basis is much more attractive, and our trucking fleet is able to more easily get our beans to town.”

Groth says effective grain marketing will be critical with depressed commodity prices and high input costs.
