Southern Indiana farmer says 2025 was challenging, but manageable
A southern Indiana farmer says it’s been a difficult growing season.
Brian Rexing raises corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa in Gibson County.
“We had some challenges getting the crop out,” he says. “There were some stretches where we had a little extra heat and went through some dry spells. Overall, we did okay. It’s not a banner year, but we had an okay year.”
He tells Brownfield his sorghum crop benefited from dry conditions.
“We harvested almost 2,000 tons of forage sorghum,” he says. “We were able to take that off around the middle of October. It’s sure nice to have that extra feed heading into the winter.”
According to the latest crop progress and condition report from the USDA, Indiana corn is 93 percent harvested, and soybeans are 99 percent harvested. Winter wheat is 92 percent planted, 64 percent emerged, and rated 69 percent good to excellent.
