Southern Indiana farmer wraps up harvest, planning underway for 2026

A southern Indiana farmer says weather patterns had the biggest impact on this year’s corn and soybean crop.

Ben Kron tells Brownfield yields were varied.

“You would get in one field of corn or beans, and they would just be great,” he says. “You get into another field, and it would be nothing to brag about. The lower areas did better. It didn’t matter if they were planted in April, May, or the end of May.”

He says he’s planning on cutting back on fertilizer inputs for 2026.

“We’re not going to be doing any building programs,” he says. “We’re going into strictly maintenance and only where we need it. It just depends, but we might push those dollars around in some other places on fertilizer.”

Kron raises corn and soybeans in Vanderburgh County.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress update scheduled for November 17th has been delayed.
