A southwest Iowa farmer says he expects some cost-cutting for the 2025 growing season.

Jeff Jorgenson says he’s focusing on efficiency this year. “Specifically, fertility efficiency,” he said, “to not be doing anything over the top or a little too much because we’ve got to make sure we can keep some money in our pocket. It’s going to be difficult.”

Jorgenson, who is a past president of the Iowa Soybean Association and served three years on the American Soybean Association’s Board of Directors, tells Brownfield it could be a difficult year for soybean growers.

“This soybean situation we have is not very rosy,” he said. “It’s either you yield into it, or you’ve got to figure out how to limit some costs. The soybean side is going to be tough. I think there’s some room to make some money in corn, but it’s still the same thing that we’ve got to yield ourselves into some profits.”

Jorgenson says he intends to plant more corn acres this year, but adds that decision is solely based on his regular rotation.
