Soybeans drying down fast

Soybeans are drying down fast in northern Iowa.

Rockwell farmer Josh Hitzhusen says the bean harvest wrapped up over the weekend with yields about five bushels better than a year ago.

“But that was our biggest complaint was that we couldn’t get them out at the maximum allowable harvestable moisture.”

He tells Brownfield moisture for his first load of soybeans was just over 13 percent.

“And they dropped from there, our last load was probably 8.9 percent or something, with a lot in the 10’s. So it’s frustrating combining beans that dry because you know you’re leaving bushels of water on the table.”

Hitzhusen says a dry end to the growing season resulted in crops dying prematurely.
