Spray drones gaining ground in crop protection

The role of drones in crop protection is growing.

Tyler Steinkamp is the crop protection product manager for WinField United. He tells Brownfield more growers are leveraging drone technology to spray their fields.

“Farmers, applicators, we’re attracting a lot of people to the ag industry having these spray drones out there,” he said. “It’s something new, a new way of making applications and it really does do a pretty good job out in the field.”

Steinkamp says it ties directly into precision agriculture, which can help boost profitability.

“The more spray you get down into the canopy, the more return on investment on you get from that investment into that fungicide.”

He says growers are encouraged to improve spray application accuracy to help maximize the performance of drone technology.
