Spring fieldwork starting soon
A field agronomist with Pioneer says spring fieldwork could be underway for several farmers as soon as next week in eastern Missouri.
“I’ve seen a couple of anhydrous tool bars starting to run and a few sprayers out.”
Scott Gard tells Brownfield it’s been dry.
“We could certainly use more moisture and are showing up on the drought monitor. Subsoil moisture has been depleted.”
Gard says there is rain in the forecast, but it’s unclear how much. And if it stays dry, he says spring planting will stay on schedule to start in early April. He says the economics favor corn this spring, but many farmers are sticking to their corn-soybean rotation.
