Spring planting delayed as wet conditions linger in central Iowa

A central Iowa farmer says wet conditions have kept him out of the field since late March.

Corey Hillebo grows corn and soybeans near Polk City.

“We had a little window to put spring anhydrous and make some strips for strip till (about) three weeks ago now, had a good week to ten days. And we have had zero fieldwork since.”

He tells Brownfield rains have been frequent so far this spring.

“It started raining, and I’m not going to say that we’re flooded out. But it’s been just well-timed, heavier rain.”

Hillebo says there is some standing water in his area.
