Spring prep slowed by snowstorm

A western Wisconsin farmer says preparations for spring are going well, despite last weekend’s blizzard.

Shane Goplin says, “With two feet of snow, that kind of puts a delay in the near future.”

Goplin tells Brownfield there is one benefit from the blizzard. “We were not nearly as dry as Illinois. Illinois was welcoming this moisture but yes, with two feet of wet, heavy snow with a lot of moisture, that’s really going to recharge the soil moisture in our grounds.”

Goplin raises corn and soybeans in the hilly driftless region near Osseo, Wisconsin, and is a member of the Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board.
