State Parks Go Green in 2015

Eight Michigan state parks are going green thanks to the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee. For the third year, the checkoff is providing grants to state parks to offset the cost of soy biobased products.

Jeff Gaertner with Porcupine Mountains Wilderness and Lake Gogebic State Parks in the Upper Peninsula says hydraulic fluid, motor oil, and multi-purpose grease are just some of the soy-based products they are currently using. He tells Brownfield the state parks are trying to protect and preserve natural environments and one way of doing that is by using green products.

“It just helps us to be more sustainable with our environment and keep these places as pristine as possible, and have them available for future generations to enjoy as well.”

Signage and stickers throughout the state parks say “Soybeans + Parks = Going Green” to bring awareness to visitors.
