STC sees positive ag transportation outlook

The executive director of the Soy Transportation Coalition says ag transportation issues have been minimal this spring.

Mike Steenhoek tells Brownfield, “Fortunately, we’re in a better position right now in terms of water levels on the Mississippi River. We’ve had drought conditions these last couple of years and it’s been nice to see those water levels have rebounded.”

He says drought conditions at the Panama Canal have also improved. “They’ve also wrestled with drought conditions. It’s limited the number of transits that they’ve permitted. That’s moving in the right direction, so there’s a number of things that are going in a favorable trajectory.”

Steenhoek says the movement of ag inputs like fertilizer and ag chemicals has been adequate.
