Strong yields mark a banner crop year in northeast Nebraska

A northeast Nebraska farmer says this year’s crop was one of the best he’s ever raised.

Greg Anderson tells Brownfield, “We had very few rain delays. The weather was great. The crop came out in good shape. We had very good soybean yields. There were some fantastic corn yields in places. Where people sprayed fungicide for southern rust, it really paid off.”

He says the weather has held up for fall field work. “As we finish the end of the year, we’ve seen some opportunities to put some fertilizer one especially the last couple of weeks and wrap up other fall things before the ground freezes up.”

The latest USDA crop progress and condition report says 74 percent of corn has been harvested, and 78 percent of winter wheat has been planted.
