Study: you don’t have to give up red or processed meat
A new study suggests that it’s okay to eat red meat.
Researchers, in a series of papers in the medical journal Annals of Internal Medicine, concluded that cutting back on consumption of red meat and processed meat will not significantly reduce a person’s risk of heart disease or cancer.
Researchers said that in 12 unique trials with 54,000 participants, there was not a significant association in the risk of heart disease, cancer, or diabetes for those that consumed less red and processed meat.
The American Heart Association has identified certain pork and beef cuts as Heart Healthy for some time now.
The study has been met with some criticism. It comes mainly from people opposed to meat consumption for animal rights and environmental reasons.
